Brassavola appendiculata is the type species for the genus Brassavola, but has a unique flower compared to the rest of the genus. The petals and sepals hang around the lobed and fringed lip. Flowers that form under warm conditions are typically cream colored with a white lip, while flowers that develop later in the year as nights cool off will often develop a reddish blush.
Like other Brassavola, Brassavola appendiculata likes to be grown warm and bright, and are especially good candidates for mounting due to their pendulous growth habit.
