I was left unsupervised in my studio for too long, and Popsquiggles happened. These little dudes are the answer to a question that NOBODY asked. “What would happen if my popsicle turned into a worm? Would I still love it?” The answer is YES!!!!

Popsquiggles receive FOUR different surface treatments to achieve their texture. I carefully hand-apply all of the detail you see on them until they start to emulate a frosty popsicle that has just started to get a little melty in the hot sun. The skin is a frosty matte finish, with sections of icy crystals, wet slush, and even some drippy melt on some!

While it looks delicate, that is an illusion. I do all of this using a variety of liquid clay materials, so it is quite durable  and permanently bonded to the rest of the worm. Like my other worms, Popsquiggles are waterproof and can be gently washed off with some water and a soft toothbrush if they accidentally get dirty. (Never use solvents to clean polymer clay! No acetone or alcohol. This kills the worm!!)

*************************************************************

My worm pendants are all completely hand-made. They are hand-textured, posed individually, ETC. Each one is a completely unique sculpture. The finish on them is polymer as well. I do not use resins, paints, or varnishes to make these.

Two years ago, I said to my husband, what if I just got weird with my art? Like what if I just started making… worms??? He, being the yes man that he is, said “well what if you did? DO IT!”.

I have invested significant time into perfecting my “recipe” for them. Achieving this degree of realism, especially texture, is tedious and time-consuming, but I love every minute of it. My favorite part is posing them. I love how each one comes alive in its own way, and they kind of “tell me” how they want to be posed if I just loosen up and don’t think too hard about it. They go into the oven a minimum of 3 times before they’re done. I am very proud of them.

WORM FAQ
—————————

Q: Won’t they break? They look fragile.
—A: No! They’re made of an exceptionally durable polymer clay. They will flex, not snap. You could try to bend one all the way in half and it would just go back to its original position. To the absolute shock of my visitors, I actually throw them across the room when vending to demonstrate this. If you look on my TT, there’s a video demonstrating.

Q: Are they squishy or sticky like they look?
—A: No. Neither. They are smooth to the touch and hard/firm. No gummy worm here, this is a Firmy Wormy!

Q: Do you use resin?
—A: no, I do not use resin. This was done with polymer clay, and they go into the oven a minimum of 3 times before they’re done.

Q: How do I wear it?
—A however you like. They come ready to wear on a generous length of genuine deerskin leather cord. At the length I cut, they usually sit at the center/below center of your chest. Both men and women wear my work! Including my own husband.

Q: I am not a jewelry person, but I need one, what else can you do with them?
—A: a lot of people get my stuff to hang somewhere in their home, from their rear-view mirror, to accompany their plants, ETC. The cord can be removed and they can also lay flat as a figurine.

Q: Is this a good way to find out if my boyfriend would still love me?
—A: yes.
